Securing your data

Get the right solution, first time

Without the right IT system you waste resources on work that doesn't create value and risk outages, data leaks and viruses. We advise, set the strategy and take it all the way into operations.

In short

IT advisory at MI Support IT is independent sparring on how your business gets the most out of its IT: strategy, cloud, security, Microsoft 365, budget and vendor selection.

An IT consultant from our team translates technology into business terms, so management can make decisions on an informed basis instead of gut feeling and vendor presentations. The advisory work ranges from single workshops and second opinions to ongoing strategic IT advisory, where we act as your part-time IT management.

We work with small and medium-sized businesses with 5-100 employees and base our recommendations on more than 25 years of hands-on operations experience, not theoretical reports. The result is typically a concrete IT strategy with a prioritised roadmap, a realistic budget and clear choices: what should you own, what belongs in the cloud, and what should a partner run?

The advisory can stand alone or flow directly into implementation and operations.

Strategic IT advisory

What does strategic IT advisory cover?

Strategic IT advisory is about making technology, finances and business fit together. With us it is not a report that ends up in a drawer, but a decision basis you can act on right away. The table shows the areas we advise on most often, and what you concretely get out of it.

Advisory areaYour outcome
IT strategy and roadmapA prioritised plan for the next 1-3 years that matches your business goals and budget.
Cloud and infrastructureClarity on what belongs in the cloud, what stays on-prem, and what the move requires.
IT security and complianceAn overview of risks and requirements such as NIS2 and GDPR, translated into concrete, prioritised actions.
Microsoft 365 and licencesOptimised licence spend and a platform that is actually used instead of just paid for.
IT budget and vendor managementA realistic budget and sharper agreements with the vendors you already have.

When does it make sense?

Typical situations where we get called in

IT advisory is rarely bought for fun. It is typically requested when the company is at a crossroads and the wrong choices get expensive.

  • Growth and scaling

You have grown from 10 to 40 employees, and the IT that was fine for the first ten is creaking. We lay out a plan that can grow with you.

  • Moving to the cloud

The server in the basement is nearing retirement and everyone talks about cloud. We do the maths on what actually pays off and manage the move without downtime.

  • NIS2 and compliance

New requirements from authorities, customers or insurers hit your industry. We translate them into a concrete action plan in the right order.

  • Microsoft 365 optimisation

You pay for licences nobody uses while Teams and SharePoint drift. We clean up licences, structure and security on the platform.

If security has become a board-level topic, our free e-book The executive's guide to IT security is a good place to start before we talk.

Trust

We live up to your trust

Professional IT advisory gives you an overview of where you can and should optimise to run an effective organisation. But it also takes trust to let others into your IT engine room.

When you choose IT advisory from us, we'll live up to that trust. That's why we pick the specialist who fits your needs best, and why we take time to understand your existing IT systems.

Without trust there is no partnership.

How we work

From first meeting to finished plan in four steps

An advisory engagement with us is a fixed, proven process, not an open-ended pile of hours. You know in advance what each step delivers.

  1. 1 · Discovery

We interview key people and review your environment, agreements and costs, so the recommendations are based on reality, not assumptions.

  2. 2 · Analysis

We assess technology, security and finances against your business goals and identify where effort creates the biggest impact.

  3. 3 · Recommendation and roadmap

You get a decision basis in plain language: prioritised recommendations, a budget frame and a roadmap management can approve.

  4. 4 · Execution and follow-up

We can implement the plan with you and follow up to make sure the gains are actually realised.

If you also need to choose a permanent operations partner, we have gathered the advice in our article on choosing the right IT partner.

Pricing

What does IT advisory cost?

Advisory is billed by time spent or as a fixed part of an operations agreement, and larger engagements are priced as a single quote before work begins. That means you always know the frame before we start, and an initial meeting is always free of obligation.

See our general pricing model on the pricing page, and read our article on the IT budget as an investment if you want the arguments ready before the budget needs defending. If the advisory concludes that operations should be lifted by a partner, the engagement flows directly into our IT outsourcing without starting over.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about IT advisory

IT advisory is independent, professional sparring on your company's technology choices: strategy, cloud, security, licences, budget and vendors. The purpose is for management to make IT decisions on an informed basis, with a consultant who knows both the technology and the business context.

Advisory is the thinking: analysis, strategy and decision basis. Outsourcing is the operations work, where a partner takes responsibility for support, servers and security day to day. Many engagements start with advisory and end in an operations agreement, but you can buy the advisory on its own.

We bill by time spent or as a fixed part of an operations agreement, and larger advisory engagements get a total price as a quote before we start. The initial meeting is always free of obligation, so you can assess us before spending anything.

Typically when a decision is expensive to regret: a cloud migration, a new ERP system, NIS2 requirements, rapid growth, or an IT budget that has grown without anyone knowing why. If you have no internal IT management, ongoing strategic sparring can fill that gap.

Yes. We translate the requirements of NIS2, GDPR and industry-specific standards into a concrete, prioritised action plan and help document the work, so you can answer properly when customers, auditors or authorities ask.

No. Advisory can be bought completely independently of our operations agreements, and we also give second opinions on quotes and strategies from other vendors. The independence is exactly the point.

Book a no-obligation meeting where we clarify your situation and needs. You then get a proposed engagement with content, deliverables and price, and only once that is approved does the actual work begin.
